A friend of mine works for Queens University's continuing education department and passed along information regarding a great 4 week course on Southern furniture. If you are interested, please check out the course description:

The History & Evolution of Southern Furniture & Decorative Arts

This course consists of a series of four lectures examining the various fields of regional antiques in historical context and exploring ways to define and determine value. Is age the only criteria for an "antique" to have value? Do antiques appreciate in value over time? What are the changing trends in the world of collecting? This course will focus on Southern furniture, pottery and silver.

 

Each week you will see examples of decorative arts, such as paintings, pottery and other furnishings. You will have the opportunity to learn from experts in each category. The first three classes will be held at the new Queens University of Charlotte - Hodges Taylor Humanities Campus, utilizing the Hodges Taylor Gallery conveniently located uptown (free parking provided directly under the building). The last session of class (10/28/10) will be held in the historic Withers House located on the Queens’ main campus. You will have a chance to see the beautiful interiors of this extraordinary southern Victorian. (The house was originally constructed in 1904 but moved to Myers Park in the 1920’s.)
