MOSS

I just love a row of old trees with Spanish moss growing on them. There is nothing prettier. It is utterly Southern. Wish this was my driveway! ha!
Bring a little moss home with you for your covered porch with these new pieces. They'd be great in the mountains!

Citronella Firepots

Keep those pesky mosquitos away in style! These new firepots look great on any outdoor dining table, around a pool, or along a stone wall. They burn citronella gel fuel and have a nice cover to keep the inside clean when not in use.
terazzo firepot $54 each
1 quart citronella pourable eco-gel fuel $12
We used similar ones along Jane's pool at our dinner for Bunny Williams and it looked stunning! I wish I had a better picture to show you -- check out the flames in the background of this photo for an idea of what I mean:

Antique of the Week!

Circa designers love using antique drums as a coffee table! This one is quite interesting; the white is a nice surprise as compared to the dark brown or black ones you may have seen.
Antique drum table (approximately 32" diameter) $1200

Check out how Heather used a darker drum in the center of her family room, as seen in Southern Accents:

Klingman Home in Charlotte Urban Home

Be sure to check out the home of Sally & Dick Klingman in Charlotte Urban Home magazine! The Klingmans are great friends of Cindy Smith (and Circa!). They have created an amazing home filled with modern and traditional elements. I love this house because it offers an eclectic collection of their interests and experiences through the years with furniture and accessories that truly compliment them - pieces they love. A designer himself, Dick Klingman with the help of Cindy Smith and Ed Starr "came up with the finishing touches of the house plan, the remodel and subsequent interior design."* Look closely for pieces that you can tell came from Circa!

Glass

Domestic Diva Martha Stewart has a cool spread on glass bottles in this month's Martha Stewart Living. In regards to collecting glass bottles and jars, she suggests "In every color of the rainbow, glass vessels are easy to amass and lovely to behold." We agree! Glass jars are a wonderful decorating accessory for kitchens and bookshelves.
Glass bottles range from purple to clear....
...from white to amber to green.

*As seen in the August 2010:
Take a look at some of the green and purple options we have at Circa:
green glass ball $75 (great on a side table or kitchen counter)
green dimijous $160 each (shorter ones on outside of photo)
antique green wine bottles $300 each (back center)
crystal violet bowls $50 each
small plum glass bottle $52
large plum glass bottle $70
large aubergine vase $385

I love how Cindy accented this kitchen hutch with antique wine bottles:
I love how Catherine placed this crystal violet bowl on an end table:
And on a totally RANDOM note...I am reading Sea Glass by Antia Shreve right now and it is wonderful! You must pick up a copy and head to the beach this summer. Colors of glass are discussed throughout the entire book. It is so good!

Light a Room

Lamps & Mirrors help light any room. By hanging a mirror on a wall across from a window you are able to reflect natural light which I consider the best form. You're also able to make the room look larger. Personally, I am not a big fan of overhead lighting unless it is on a dimmer. I prefer lamp light. Take a look at a few new mirrors and lamps we just got in:
French carved mirror $695 (great price!)
48"W x 46"H
Check out the mirror's detailing!
silver leaf soleil mirror $1242

Circa is listed in a new book!

We are thrilled to be included in the new Perspective on Design Carolinas! This coffee table book highlights North & South Carolina architects, homebuilders, interior designers, and more.
(click images to enlarge but be sure to click back)
A few thoughts from Cindy Smith as expressed in the book:
"Beautiful surroundings renew the spirit. An environment should possess a sense of comfort, well-being, intimacy, and joy."
-
"The goal is to create luxury without being ostentatious. Mixing European antiques with contemporary pieces makes a room comfortable, yet exciting."

New Bourgeoisie 3D!

Circa is a big fan of Emily Bourgeois' designs at Bourgeoisie 3D. We have a few of their items on our floor before (we still have the curved barstools), and we used one of their tables as a desk at the Metropolitan Designer House. Their casegoods are interesting; they make you want to examine them when you enter a room. With curved, clean lines and beautiful finishes, the pieces make their own statement. Check out what we've just received in Charlotte:
